Roy Hodgson insists his England players will not fluff their lines in Friday’s crucial Wembley showdown with Montenegro.

England need victory and again against Poland next Tuesday to guarantee their progression to next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

Yet with Hodgson’s team only a point clear at the top of Group H, any slip-up is likely to be punished.

Nonetheless the England manager is confident of negotiating the task ahead.

“No,” was Hodgson’s response when asked if he is worried about failing to qualify.

“We have never discussed not qualifying. We are convinced we are a good team, that we are good enough to qualify and that we are going to do the job.

“Words like fear or anxiety or concern haven’t really crossed our minds or certainly haven’t crossed our lips. There will be lots of good teams that don’t get there, but I am convinced that it won’t be us.”

Hodgson has been pleased with what he has seen on the training ground at London Colney this week and aside from Ashley Cole, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who were all ruled out before the squad met up on Monday, everyone else has trained and is available for selection.

England have several options up front, but Hodgson is likely to pair Daniel Sturridge and Wayne Rooney, who have scored 13 goals between them so far this season, in attack.
