Tory aide in court over Parliament rape claim

AN AIDE to a Tory MP pleaded not guilty yesterday to rape and assaut charges relating to an alleged attack that took place in his boss’s Parliament office last October.

Samuel Armstrong denied two counts of rape, one of sexual assault and one of assault by penetration at Southwark Crown Court.

It is alleged that the 23-year-old, from Danbury in Essex, intentionally penetrated a woman without her consent in the early hours of the morning in the Norman Shaw North building at the Palace of Westminster.

On the same day, it is also alleged that he touched her sexually without her consent.

Mr Armstrong has been suspended as chief of staff to South Thanet MP Craig Mackinlay.

He was given bail on the condition that he does not enter the Palace of Westminster or contact the alleged victim.

A pre-trial hearing is scheduled to take place on September 29. He will appear for trial on December 11.
