Steve Hillage's production for System 7's collaboration with Japanese outfit Rovo on Phoenix Rising is knock-out.

Trippy electronics reconfigure the senses on tracks like Hinotori, laden with fast patterned jazz percussion and spiralling techno guitar.

Lasting a compelling 10 minutes, it's a delightful prelude to the cyclic mayhem of Love For Phoenix.

Meeting Of The Spirits, Unbroken and Cisco - the latter with intriguing time signature shifts - are dramatic moments of unremitting progressive guitar-work, dancing through techo-beats to provide a totally unique and hectic sound.

Sino Dub is joyous and leads into Unseen Onsen, a perfect place to take a breather.

Throughout, Hillage's and Seiichi Yamamoto's exquisite guitar sound is to be marvelled at, as is Yuji Katsui's electric violin on the synthesised world of Miquette Griraudy's, and Yasuhira Yoshigaki and Yolchi Okabe's drumming is nothing short of inspirational.
