Iraq: Troops break through to western Mosul

IRAQI troops broke through Isis lines in west Mosul yesterday, taking several districts from the death cult.

Attacking from the west of the city on the new front opened at the weekend, counter-terrorism units took the Maamli and Islah Ziraai districts.

That followed Monday’s liberation of the western industrial zone. Later unconfirmed reports said the Haramat district was also retaken and troops were fighting in Tamuz.

The army’s 16th division fought their way into Hawi al-Kanisa district on Tuesday, capturing half of it.

Division commander General Jabar Daraji said his engineering units found 16 Isis bomb factories there.

Isis now controls just eight districts of Mosul after months of fighting.

But repeated attempts to drive them from the maze-like Old City have so far failed.
