Winfield and Beaumont shine at the crease in easy England win

Lauren Winfield and Tamsin Beaumont starred with the bat yesterday as England swept Pakistan aside with relative ease, winning by 212 runs.

The victory means England lead the three-match One Day International series 2-0, with the final ODI being played on Monday.

Winfield and Beaumont found the crease at will, reaching 123 and 104 respectively, with pair rightly earning the player of the match award.

With the pair dismissed, Natalie Sciver came in and quickly hit Pakistan for 80 from just 33 balls, as England ended on 378-5 — their highest ever ODI total.

It was a near-impossible run chase for Pakistan and with the ball in her hand, Sciver quickly dismissed Nahida Khan and Iram Javed.

Anya Shrubsole then piled on further misery, claiming four wickets as the rest of the team failed to put up much of a fight — England bowling-out their opponents for 166.

The victory means new captain Heather Knight maintains her 100 per cent record.

Knight, who was bowled-out for 26, was jubilant afterwards, saying: “I didn’t think it could get any better than yesterday but today was outstanding. We knew about the record and it was a nice thing to aim for.

“Boundaries is an area we’ve looked at, we were helped by the small boundaries but the girls still have to put the ball there. It was exciting and we want people to enjoy coming to watch us play.”

Beaumont said that the victory was “pretty unbelievable. There was a bit of faith to be at the top of the order and it’s paid off.”

For Winfield, her innings was the complete opposite to Tuesday’s when she was dismissed for a golden duck.

“The ups and downs of Lauren Winfield. It shows how quickly the game can change.

“It took a bit of a motorway drive and a lot of stewing last night,” she said. “Fortunately today I came out and turned it round.

“It was really good to give a platform for the team. And for the others to come in and play like that, like Nat Sciver did.

There was some extraordinary hitting there. We’ve done well today and we’ll enjoy it.”

Pakistan captain Sana Mir admitted after that her side knew they would be unable to chase down England’s total but was still pleased by how her side reacted.

“I didn’t think we could chase that total down,” she said. “The girls know it pretty well [what to do]. They have themselves lifted this team before. We know how to come back. These kind of games happen.”

With an eye on Monday’s final match, Knight said: “We’ll head down to Taunton and work on a few things, there is the ICC Championship to play for too so we need to be on our game.”
