CGT vows to keep up fight against labour law

MILITANT French trade union federation CGT warned yesterday that it will continue to do everything possible to block the Socialist government’s anti-union legislation.

The CGT pointed out that Thursday’s mass protests against the el-Khomri law, named after Employment Minister Myriam El-Khomri, had resulted in 110 demonstrations or gatherings across the country “at the call of seven organisations mobilised to continue to say No to the labour law.”

The federation said that, despite draconian security measures imposed by police, over 170,000 workers had flouted banning orders and hit the streets for the 14th time.

“The CGT will continue to fight on all terrain to prevent the implementation of this law, point by point, measure by measure, whether at local level in workplaces with working people or nationally before the courts.

“We shall continue to mobilise to block this law, which has not been voted in but has been imposed arbitrarily on the workers of this country.”
