Cricket: Kiwis beat England by three wickets at Rose Bowl

NEW ZEALAND took full advantage of England’s collapse to win the third Royal London one-day international at the Rose Bowl and go 2-1 up in the five-match series.

England had scooped their third successive total over 300 yesterday but were bowled out against New Zealand with, embarrassingly, almost five overs unused.

After setting themselves up well with half-centuries from Joe Root, Ben Stokes and captain Eoin Morgan hitting his third in a row, the England batters slumped, losing their final five wickets for a paltry 14 runs to end 302 all out.

Their spurned overs proved costly as the Kiwis capitalised and outplayed England for large parts of the afternoon to win by three wickets — 306 and 7 not out — with impressive Williamson and Taylor chalking up 118 and 110 respectively in a in 206 stand.
