RUNNER up to Fifa’s goal of the year award Stephanie Roche signed for Sunderland yesterday.
Roche was beaten by Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez goal at the World Cup but made news worldwide after her stunning strike made the Puskas Award shortlist.
The Republic of Ireland international will now ply her trade in the Women’s Super League after the mid-season break.
She told the Black Cats website: “I know there is a high standard in WSL 1 and it’s something I’m looking forward to being a part of. The team have done really well this season and hopefully I can play my part too.”
Sunderland return to action on July 12 against FA cup finalists Notts County, where Roche could make her debut.
