GLAMORGAN comfortably beat Surrey by seven wickets at Guildford yesterday to smash the hosts’ unbeaten record in Division Two this season.
Both teams were unbeaten in the County Championship this season, but the visitors reached their victory target of 247 in 63.1 overs - Will Bragg and Ben Wright hit 83 and 68 respectively.
Centuries in both innings from Arun Harinath had provided notable opposition, while Graham Wagg hit a superb double-hundred to give Glamorgan a realistic chance of victory.
The Welsh side take 23 points while Surrey must settle for just six, meaning the visitors remain third and undefeated, but are just 12 points behind Surrey with a game in hand.
Resuming on 276-8, just one run was added before Wagg bowled Vikram Solanki and Stuart Meaker in successive balls to leave Surrey 277 all out.
That completed an excellent performance from all-rounder Wagg, claiming match figures of 6-129 either side of an outstanding 200 from 216 balls, including 21 fours and 11 sixes.
Glamorgan set about the chase positively as Jacques Rudolph made 40 from 55 balls before being caught by Harinath off Gareth Batty.
Bragg and Wright then batted sensibly on a pitch doing relatively little to the pair, putting on 128 for the second wicket — both were dismissed with the target relatively close.
That allowed Colin Ingram to hit three fours and a six in cameo which saw him reach 25 from just 22 balls, a superb turnaround for the Welsh side.
When Wagg had arrived at the crease first innings Glamorgan were 106-6 responding to 406 all out from the hosts – his knock gave them a 31 run lead heading into the second innings.
Michael Hogan was also outstanding, taking 5-44 in the second innings to help leave a manageable chase for Glamorgan, with Harinath the main resistance.
Opening for Surrey in place of Rory Burns, who was injured after an on-field collision with Moses Henriques last Sunday, the 28-year-old became the first Surrey batsman to score twin hundreds in a Championship match since Mark Ramprakash in 2010.
