Police remove church peace occupiers

CHRISTIAN anti-arms activists were forcibly removed by police yesterday after occupying a church centre where arms dealers were holding a conference.

Activists from a coalition of Christian groups stormed Church House in Westminster on the final day of the RUSI Land Warfare Conference.

The event is sponsored by a number of arms companies, including the world’s biggest arms firm Lockheed Martin and MBDA Missile Systems.

Police responded to the occupation by three activists by sending three cars full of officers to frogmarch them out.

“These companies are not hiring Church House Conference Centre because they want to support the church,” said the Campaign Against Arms Trade Christian network’s Symon Hill.

“They are doing it because it’s good for business. Unfortunately, Church House Conference Centre is giving practical support and a veneer of legitimacy to an industry that profits from war.”
