Scotland: Festival faces music over poor wages accusations

TRADE unionists accused organisers of music festival T in the Park yesterday of poor working practices and failing to pay its staff the “adult” minimum wage.

T in the Park, which has been held in Scotland since 1994, will see thousands of revellers attend the event over this weekend.

But organisers have been told to get to grips with poor employment practices in its festival bars, operated by Barcode Recruitment, where under-21s are allegedly paid just £5.30 an hour.

The Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) said the bar staff were led to believe that they would be paid at least the “adult” minimum wage of £6.50.

STUC general secretary Grahame Smith said: “It is clear from some of the discussions we have had that young workers contracted to this job feel that they have been misled.”
