Wolfsburg win gives Gunners the Emirates Cup

Arsenal lifted the Emirates Cup with a hard-fought win over Wolfsburg on day two of the pre-season competiton yesterday.

Having hammered Lyon 6-0 on Saturday with six different scorers and enjoyable displays from emerging youngsters, the Gunners laboured to a 1-0 win against German side Wolfsburg with a Theo Walcott second-half goal making the difference.

Petr Cech kept the Reds in front with some impressive low stretching saves and young winger Jeff Rene-Adelaide lived up to Wenger’s pre-match praise which called the talent “something special” with a flowing performance that also saw him assist the goal.

The tournament sets Arsenal up nicely for their Community Shield tie against Premier League champions Chelsea next weekend as Wenger’s side look to lay down a marker ahead of the new season.
