US PRESIDENT Barack Obama yesterday dismissed Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee’s likening of the Iran nuclear deal to the nazi Holocaust as “ridiculous if it wasn’t so sad.”
Mr Huckabee told Breitbart News on Sunday that Mr Obama was “so naive he would trust the Iranians and he would take the Israelis and basically march them to the door of the oven.”
The former Arkansas governor and Fox News presenter, who failed to secure the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, said of the deal: “I read the entire thing. We gave away the whole farm. It’s got to be stopped.”
At a news conference in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, Mr Obama said Mr Huckabee’s comments were part of a pattern of attacks by Republican presidential candidates that would be “considered ridiculous if it weren’t so sad.”
Democratic national committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said that Mr Huckabee’s statement was “grossly irresponsible” and called on him to apologise.
