THAI Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha protested his country’s continued inclusion on the US human trafficking blacklist yesterday.
Mr Chan-ocha said Tuesday that Thailand was working on solving the issues and that the assessment was made when his administration, which took over after a military coup last year, was beginning to address the problems.
Thailand was among 23 countries receiving the lowest ranking in the seemingly arbitrary annual US assessment of 188 governments’ efforts to combat human trafficking and slavery, released on Monday.
Cuba was removed from the list for the first time since 2003 on Monday, although it was still included on the list of countries requiring special scrutiny.
The ACN news agency pointed out that US State Department observers consider Cuban medical co-operation to more than 50 countries as forced labour, calling Cuba’s inclusion “arbitrary and unfair.”
