LABOUR reject Mark Steel is among the performers at a Free Gaza! fundraiser at the Edinburgh fringe tomorrow.
The comedian revealed this week that he was among 1,200 so-called “entryists” barred from taking part in the party’s leadership ballot.
The show also features comedians Daniel Kitson, Mark Thomas and Ivor Dembina and will raise funds for Palestine through the International Medical Education Trust 2000 (IMET 2000).
Referring to the 2014 Israeli onslaught on Gaza, Jewish comedian Mr Dembina said that the sold-out gig was a reminder that “those of us in Edinburgh haven’t forgotten last year’s zionist atrocity.”
The 50-day attack left more than 2,200 Palestinians dead, including 551 children.
IMET 2000 treasurer Colin Green said that the comedians had asked that proceeds “should be used in the training of surgeons in reconstructive, trauma and burns surgery for the benefit of the children of Gaza.” He thanked the comedians for their generosity.
The global healthcare charity treats mental as well as physical trauma in children resulting from conflict, severe economic deprivation, torture and abuse in Palestine.
A petition launched last weekend calling on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to be arrested for war crimes when he visits Britain in September has topped 10,000 signatures, meaning the Tory government will have to respond.
Approaching 55,000 signatures, it is well on its way to reaching 100,000, the number needed in order for
it to be considered for debate in Parliament.
