Parents play the Game of Thrones

THE royal family and TV series Game of Thrones were the strongest influences on babies’ names in 2014, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed yesterday.

Amelia and Oliver kept the top spot in the overall list of most popular names for babies born in England and Wales in 2014.

But names such as Khaleesi, Tyrion and Theon, inspired by some of Game of Thrones’ leading characters, also made it on to the list.

Royal approval seems to still resonate with British parents, as George, William and Harry kept their places on the list of top 10 boys’ names.
