RUSSIA has agreed to supply the powerful S-300 surface-to-air missile system to Iran, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told news agency RIA Novosti yesterday.
He said “just technical details” remained to be discussed, although the exact number of missile systems was yet to be decided.
There has been speculation over whether Russia will sell Iran three or four divisions’ worth of missiles.
The defensive missiles fly at six times the speed of sound and are capable of of intercepting aircraft up to 125 miles away or ballistic missiles at much closer ranges.
Moscow lifted its own voluntary embargo on selling the system to Tehran in April after progress in nuclear talks.
