US: Unions condemn two TV journalists’ on-air killing

THE INTERNATIONAL Federation of Journalists condemned the murder of two US TV journalists by a vengeful suspended employee yesterday morning.

Reporter Allison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward, working for CBS-affiliated TV station WDBJ7, were shot dead while interviewing a woman live on air in Moneta, Virginia.

Police pursued suspect Vester Lee Flanagan, who goes by the alias of Bryce Williams, until he shot himself. He survived, but was said by police to be in a critical condition.

Video of the shooting was later posted on the Bryce Williams Twitter account and Facebook page.

It showed an outstretched arm holding the handgun and firing repeatedly at Ms Parker as she tried to run away.

Mr Flanagan expressed hope that he could fight racism when he joined the station, but he accused Ms Parker of racism following his suspension on disciplinary charges.
