Post Office currency survey reveals ‘huge inconsistencies’

POST OFFICE customers face a postcode lottery of “huge inconsistencies” when buying currency in their local branch, it was revealed yesterday.

Research carried out by travel money firm FairFX found that rates varied significantly at certain Post Office branches.

FairFX visited 20 branches on Thursday to sample rates shown on currency boards at the front of the stores.

It found that someone buying £500 worth of euros in Ashford, Middlesex, would have been 47 euros worse off than someone changing the same amount at the same time in Durham.

FairFX’s Darren Kilner said: “The Post Office needs to treat its customers more fairly and have one consistent rate across the board and across the UK for its customers.”

The Post Office has disputed the findings. It claimed one of the lowest rates spotted was a result of “incorrect data” being displayed in the window of one of its branches.
