NSL traffic wardens walk out for higher pay

TRAFFIC wardens working for Camden Council parking contractor NSL went on strike yesterday to push for higher wage.

Wardens, who are exepcted to stay out until Saturday, have rejected NSL’s £9.15 offer, calling for £9.50 an hour after an original demand of £10.50.

The members of the Camden branch of public-sector union Unison, who were joined on the picket lines by a dozen members of the union’s national executive committee, currently receive £8.92 an hour — compared to £11.05 in nearby Waltham Forest.

There is “little doubt” that the strike action affected NSL, Camden branch secretary George Binette told the Star, adding that the company had been forced to draw in agency workers as scab labour.

A demonstration is set to take place tomorrow outside Camden Town Hall, where Labour MP John McDonnell and Fire Brigades Union London regional secretary Paul Embery are expected to make speeches.
