Some have wondered if I am a little crazy, others have thought I have a bit of self-hate and, on Twitter, Telegraph journalist Dan Hodges called me “Corbyn’s useful Jewish idiot.”
But I am not alone. Plenty of other Jews support Jeremy Corbyn and voted for him to be Labour leader.
Unfortunately, the two main Jewish newspapers in Britain, the Jewish Chronicle and the Jewish News, do not support Corbyn but rather helped to lead the anti-Corbyn campaign that created smears about him being anti-semitic.
As a result, many Jewish supporters of Corbyn decided to organise using social media.
Initially this began when a member of the community named his new blog “Jews4Jeremy.”
Then Facebook groups and Twitter accounts were started, as well as Jewish people using their current blogs to write articles to defend Corbyn.
The term Jews4Jeremy then became popular and has been effective to show that Corbyn is not anti-semitic and has significant support within the Jewish community.
But the Jews4Jeremy movement is just the start of what could well end up being a renaissance of Jewish socialism, especially among the younger generation.
New initiatives are being proposed and people have already got to work on some promising ideas.
A petition which aims to obtain thousands of signatories from the Jewish commuity is being drafted and will request that the media stop using Jewish people as a political football to help the Tories win the next election by smearing Corbyn and the Labour Party.
Most dramatically of all, the anger and disappointment at the right-wing agenda of the Jewish Chronicle has led to many younger Jews deciding to form a leftist, alternative media to give voice to those with socialist leanings within the Jewish community.
One initiative that will be launched next month, called J-voice, has already united a number of Jewish activists and Twitter wizards, which aims to publish articles on social media that could successfully compete with the Jewish Chronicle.
Yet that does not answer the question as to why so many Jewish people, both secular and religious, support Corbyn. My view is that if he became prime minister, the outcome would be very good for not only everyone in this country, including the Jewish community, but also for Israelis and for Palestinians.
The current Israeli government has committed some serious crimes under international law and, despite some viewing Benjamin Netanyahu as a war criminal, he is often — by comparison — the moderate in the government.
The last government had Yisrael Beiteinu, the Israeli version of the BNP, in the coalition and the current government has Ayelet Shaked, the Israeli version of Anjem Choudary, as minister of justice.
Maybe Israel needs to get a bit of tough love from a British government with Corbyn as PM.
I use the analogy of “being drunk” regarding these right-wing Israeli governments.
When someone is heavily drunk, one may need to hear criticism.
If I am drunk and acting aggressively, a good friend does not tell me to drink more and give me the keys to the car. No, a good friend would criticise me, even if that hurts my feelings.
That’s why Corbyn is good for Israel, because Israel needs to end its military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, which Corbyn has consistently called for.
But that’s not the primary reason why I support Jeremy Corbyn. I support Corbyn because the socialist values of equality and social justice that he fights for are the values that are best for all of us, and interestingly these socialist values also happen to be Jewish values.
Many prominent rabbis have recently criticised Corbyn and cannot see why Jewish people should support him. How ever, Judaism is influenced not just by socialist ideals but also by revolution.
And I don’t mean some metaphorical kind of revolution, rather, I mean the Marxist version of revolution. This revolution is marked by our festival called Passover.
Out of all the Jewish festivals, nothing enlightens our souls like that of the liberation of the Hebrew slaves from Egypt. Even if this is just a myth, this revolution is something that has been celebrated by Jews for thousands of years and when we celebrate it, we really celebrate it — we eat well, get drunk on red wine and sing songs of freedom and oppression.
In my opinion, the two greatest rabbis in history, Rabbi Israel Ben Elizer, known as the Baal Shem Tov, and Rabbi Nachman were the radical anarchists of their time.
They warned about the dangers of becoming rich and knew wealth did not make anybody happy but rather was like an addiction where we become destructive in our perpetual thirst for even more wealth and power.
If we look at the Tories’ treatment of the unemployed and humiliation of the disabled, it is clear that the Conservative Party does not represent these Jewish values.
Whereas the Tory idea of success is measured by how much money and power one has, the Jewish idea of success is, in contrast, about community, spirituality and compassion.
Surely Corbyn then represents Jews better than David Cameron, George Osborne or Boris Johnson?
With Jewish people for centuries being vital in the struggle for socialism, my generation plans to be no different.
We are organising and the Jewish-left initiatives being formed will be a crucial tool to fight for a more just society.
