This debut feature by Terence Nance, set in New York, follows the story of a broke and lonely young man, played by Nance himself.
Falling in love with a beautiful young woman (Namik Minter), it charts the rapid switch between platonic and romantic feelings the two experience and, as the film follows the lovers' obsession, it attempts to uncover the reasons for their emotional connection.
In what becomes a quest for identity and a sense of belonging, Nance mixes fiction and documentary to produce an idiosyncratic and refreshing narrative, shot through with moments of lightness and humour.
As a love story of intense emotional honesty, it's a film demanding concentration. But it's an absolutely mesmeric experience.
