THE renewed ceasefire in eastern Ukraine has created a space for dialogue, the head of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) said on Saturday.
OSCE secretary-general Lamberto Zannier had just visited the south-eastern city of Mariupol and nearby Shyrokyne where, he said, the situation was calm.
“The ceasefire now has being holding for more than 10 days and that’s good news, because that is opening now the space to make progress on a political level,” he said.
The OSCE is charged with monitoring the ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine agreed to speed up talks between the Kiev regime and anti-fascist forces in the eastern Donbass region before winter.
After a meeting with his Russian, Ukrainian and French counterparts later in the day, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that there had been progress and voiced hope of an agreement on withdrawing artillery being reached soon.
