JONATHAN ASHWORTH will reportedly leave his role as chief executive of Labour Together at the end of July.
The former Labour MP took on the job at the think tank days after losing his Leicester South seat in the general election last July.
He told the Spectator magazine’s Coffee House Shots podcast that he would be quitting after just a year in the post.
The former shadow paymaster-general was one of the seven Labour MPs to lose their seat, being defeated by pro-Palestine independent Shockat Adam.
He said: “I always, to my friends anyway, said that I would do 12 months at Labour Together, so in July I will be moving on.
“It’s been absolutely great, I’ve loved it, and it was a great place to go when you unexpectedly lose your seat at a general election, but I always said I’d give it 12 months.”
The group behind Sir Keir Starmer’s rise to power had become “directionless” during Mr Ashworth’s leadership, with up to 15 per cent of staff leaving since last year, according to the Times.
