DOZENS of Youth Demand supporters took to the streets today, calling for a complete trade embargo on Israel and demanding that the super-rich pay damages to those most harmed by the climate crisis.
About 40 activists split into two groups stepped onto pedestrian crossings at Holborn and Southwark Bridge, and unfurled banners reading “Stop arming Israel” and “Make the rich pay,” disrupting traffic for around 20 minutes at each location.
The groups reemerged at Trafalgar Square and Tower Hill before moving on to the Barbican and Waterloo.
At Waterloo, a passer-by aggressively pushed Youth Demand supporters off the road, the group said.
Police issued an S7 notice and all supporters left the road. Four were arrested for interference with key national infrastructure.
Among those taking action was Toby Ellwood, 19, a student from West Sussex, who said: “Our government wants to keep doing business as usual and lining the pockets of their billionaire friends while our climate collapses and we watch children in Palestine be mutilated by genocidal colonisers.
“We have to take action because we cannot bear to watch the suffering created by the system of the bloodthirsty elites.”
