PROTESTERS gathered outside Lowfields Farm in Northallerton on Saturday after undercover footage showed workers kicking and striking cows.
The investigation by the Animal Justice Project (AJP) also showed newborn calves being separated from their mothers.
Dairy company Arla has since suspended the farm’s milk contract.
AJP director Clare Palmer said that around 50 campaigners, “deeply concerned not just about the suffering of cows and calves at Lowfields Farm, but about the dairy industry as a whole,” took part in the action.
“We’re standing up for animal rights, the planet and public health,” she said.
“Leaflets have been distributed in Brompton to help local residents understand that dairy is far from harmless.
“The British public is being systematically misled about where their food comes from—it’s not their fault, but it’s time they saw the reality behind the adverts.”
Former model Heather Mills backed the action saying: “We have the power to choose kindness, and I stand with Animal Justice Project.”
A spokesperson for the farm declined to comment and Arla said a farmer had been suspended while the matter is investigated further.
