Starmer urged to condemn Trump's ethnic cleansing plans at the Senedd

PLAID CYMRU urged the Senedd today to pressure the Westminster government to condemn US President Donald Trump’s plans to ethnically cleanse two million Palestinians from Gaza.

The Welsh nationalist party’s leader Rhun ap Iorwerth MS said tens of thousands of innocent civilians have been killled by Israeli foeces in the 469 days since the Welsh parliament voted to call for a ceasefire.

He said: “Wales cannot and must not remain silent in the face of such profound injustice. we have a duty to speak out, to take action and put all the pressure we can on those who have direct power to intervene to do so.”

Mr ap Iorwerth spoke in support of a Plaid Cymru motion calling for the Senedd to pressure the Westminster government condemn President Trump’s proposals to depopulate Gaza as ethnic cleansing; and suspend all arms exports to Israel in line with international law.

Both Labour and Tory MSs opposed the proposals.

The debate continued as the Star went to press.
