A LABOUR MP has slammed his party’s conference rules for ruling out a discussion on paedophiles.

A motion by Bassetlaw constituency party called on Labour “to put the voice of survivors at the forefront of the campaign to eradicating ongoing child abuse” and “make more legal support available to whistleblowers.”

But party rules only allow motions on issues that have arisen since the end of July when the party’s year-round policy bodies published their reports.

Bassetlaw MP John Mann, a prominent campaigner against paedophilia, said that the conference arrangements committee’s decision to deem the motion “not contemporary” was bitterly disappointing.

“This is an issue that will shape Parliament over the coming years and the Labour Party cannot be seen to be running away.”
