MEN’S SPEEDWAY: Ipswich Witches riders Dan Thompson and Adam Ellis both top scored with 11+1 points and captain Dan Bewley notched 8+1 as Britain thumped the USA 55-35 in a one-off test match at California’s Bakersfield track.

The event was the first-ever meeting between the countries in the US.

Britain are the current Speedway of Nations world champions and will defend their title in Poland later this year.

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Scottish Women’s Cup holders Rangers cruised into the quarter-finals after easing past Montrose 7-0.

MEN’S ICE HOCKEY: Despite slipping to a surprise 3-1 defeat in Dundee the Belfast Giants still lead the Elite League by seven points.

Defending champions Sheffield Steelers moved second with a game in hand after a 5-2 win at Glasgow and comfortable 3-0 victory over Cardiff, who also lost 3-2 at home to Nottingham.

Bottom club Fife continued their miserable run with a 7-5 loss to Belfast and 5-2 reverse at Coventry.

MEN’S CYCLING: Netherlands rider Mathieu van der Poel won Sunday’s World Cyclocross Championships in Lievin, northern France, after finishing a huge 45 seconds ahead of silver medallist Wout van Aert with Thys Nibau a further 21 seconds back in third.

Van der Poel has now equalled Erik De Vlaeminck’s seven world championship wins.

Thomas Mein was the highest-placed Briton in 18^th, nearly five minutes behind the winner.
