Labour’s Findlay and Baillie clash over nukes

LABOUR MSP Neil Findlay clashed with party colleague Jackie Baillie in Holyrood yesterday over the future of Trident.

Mr Findlay said he opposed Trident renewal and was “absolutely convinced” that those in favour of unilateral disarmament would win the argument against atomic weapons.

He appealed to both sides of the nuclear argument to work together to further develop a “credible and serious defence diversification plan and strategy.”

However, Ms Baillie insisted that scrapping Trident would cost 11,300 jobs and affect many of her West Dunbartonshire constituents.

But the SNP’s Keith Brown hit back at Ms Baillie’s claims, saying that the constituency’s backing for Scottish independence and overwhelming rejection of Labour at the general election suggested that her constituents disagreed with her.
