MICK LYNCH, Diane Abbott and Jeremy Corbyn are among those set to speak at a counter-protest against far-right figurehead Tommy Robinson next week.

Thousands are expected to join the Stand Up to Racism (SUTR) rally in London on Sunday in defiance of a march organised by the English Defence League founder.

The last time Mr Robinson marched through the capital in July, he attracted a crowd of up to 20,000 far-right supporters who chanted racist and Islamophobic slogans. 

It was followed by a week of racist and Islamophobic riots in the wake of the Southport stabbings.

SUTR co-convener Sabby Dhalu said: “This was no accident. 

“The same racist chants of ‘you can stick your f***ing Islam up your arse’ and ‘we want our country back’ that were chanted on the last Robinson demo, were chanted during the riots. 

“We also saw the power of anti-racist mobilisations that halted the riots.

“The majority of people in Britain abhor Robinson and his supporters. This majority needs to make its voice heard.”

The counter-protest aims to be “one of the biggest anti-fascist protests in recent decades,” SUTR said and has received support from every major trade union, faith groups, and a number of MPs.

Issuing a call to mobilise, RMT general secretary Mr Lynch said: “We cannot afford to be passive in the face of the fascist threat. 

“It is essential that we take action to challenge these dangerous forces wherever they emerge and lend our full support to the vital efforts of Stand Up to Racism.”
