BOSSES at Manchester’s Christie hospital have been accused of ignoring warnings that staff, patients and visitors were in danger of exposure from deadly asbestos for a decade.
Specialist firm Asbestos Contracting Ltd (ACL) reported in August this year that managers had known for a decade about the presence of asbestos in parts of the building.
A group of more than 20 workers, who were repeatedly sent into the affected area, were deemed to be particularly at risk.
Union Unite is now demanding disciplinary action.
“It is appalling that these workers have been exposed to the cancer-causing substance, especially as they were exposed in a world-renowned cancer hospital,” said Unite regional officer Keith Hutson.
