MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Substitute Grant Williams scored a late try as South Africa came from behind to edge out New Zealand 31-27 in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The Springboks now enjoy a commanding eight-point lead in the Rugby Championship over the second-placed All Blacks.

Australia gained their first win of the tournament as Ben Donaldson’s last minute penalty sealed a narrow 20-19 win over Argentina in La Plata.

MEN’S ICE HOCKEY: Britain were thumped 6-2 by Norway on Saturday and lost any chance of qualifying for the 2026 winter Olympics in Italy.

The British had already lost 3-1 to hosts Denmark in their opening game at the qualifying tournament in Aalborg.

Denmark are currently ranked as the world’s 11th best team, one place above Norway and six clear of Britain, who last reached the Winter Olympics in 1948.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Belgian striker Lois Openda scored twice as Leipzig came from two down to beat Leverkusen 3-2 and end the Bundesliga champion’s 35-match domestic unbeaten run.

Leverkusen lost only once last season, 3-0 to Atalanta in the Europa League final.

St Pauli remain bottom of the Bundesliga after they lost 1-0 at Union Berlin and remain without a point or a goal from their opening two games.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Injury-hit Sydney Roosters lost 14-12 to Canberra on Sunday and remain four points behind NRL table-toppers Melbourne, who went down 38-30 at North Queensland.

Third-placed Penrith brushed aside the Rabbitohs 34-12, Manly won 34-22 at Canterbury, Parramatta squeezed past St George Illawarra 44-40 and New Zealand Warriors came from 22-4 down to win 30-28 in Cronulla, Dolphins thrashed the Broncos 40-6 in the Brisbane derby and Newcastle beat Gold Coast 36-14.
