JEWISH and Arab Israeli citizens held a rally for peace and an end to the occupation of Palestine in Haifa last night.
The demonstration followed Saturday evening’s march through Tel Aviv from Rabin Square to the Defence Ministry.
Both events were backed by the Communist Party, Israel’s only political party which has both Jewish and Arab members.
Saturday’s march was organised by campaign group Peace Now.
“Only a political process that will lead to the end of our control over millions of Palestinians will end the bloody conflict between the two peoples and allow Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and quiet.
“The only way to prevent further deterioration is through a two-state solution,” the group stated ahead of the demo, which was attended by about 6,000 people.
Peace Now chairman Yariv Oppenheimer told the crowds that Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right government had turned Israel into a “violent, racist and hopeless” country.
