Royal Fleet Auxiliary crews stage fourth day of strike action

SEAFARERS who supply Royal Navy vessels staged a fourth day of strike action over pay and conditions today.

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) crews are members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT).

The strike has brought supply operations to a halt worldwide, including in Singapore and Cyprus where supply vessels RFA Argus and RFA Mounts Bat are docked.

RMT said talks promised by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) had not materialised.

General secretary Mick Lynch said: “This union has been repeatedly told that the MoD will look to start pay negotiations, with vague promises of further meetings, but it is clear that they are failing to address our concerns.

“If the RFA believes that its workers are as ‘highly trained and working to the same standards as other military personnel’ as it says then it should be reflected in what they are paid.”

The MoD was contacted for comment.
