COLLEGE workers down their pens across England today over bosses’ attempts to freeze their pay.
Further education union UCU members at more than 200 colleges are furious that bosses’ group the Association of Colleges has recommended freezing wages despite a real-terms cut of 17.1 per cent to pay packets over the last five years.
A whopping 74 per cent voted to strike after bosses rejected a pay claim of £1 an hour extra.
Shadow chancellor John McDonnell and UCU general secretary Sally Hunt will join the London rally from 1pm in the Emmanuel Centre.
UCU president Liz Lawrence will be among the speakers at the Birmingham and Midland Institute from 11am.
Ms Hunt said the offer was “a real insult” and hoped bosses would come back to the negotiating table.
