SNP demands answers on Gaza troop deployment

THE Scottish National Party’s Westminster leader has demanded “urgent clarity and transparency” over British troop deployments in the Middle East.

Amid growing concern that the British military’s official role supplying humanitarian aid to Gaza could be subject to “mission creep,” SNP MP Stephen Flynn challenged Rishi Sunak at Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday to tell Parliament of any deployment plans. “MPs need to vote before a single UK military boot sets foot on Middle Eastern soil,” he then stressed.

Accusing the Prime Minister of avoiding answering the questions, Mr Flynn has now written to Mr Sunak, saying: “Anyone with any degree of humanity understands the urgent need for an influx of humanitarian aid into the Gaza strip.

“But surely the solution is not sending more soldiers in — the solution is demanding that [Israeli] Prime Minister Netanyahu finally stops blocking existing aid routes [from] civilian organisations [who] already have an abundance of food, medicine, and humanitarian supplies ready to help the Palestinian people.

“Urgent clarity is now needed on your plans to send UK troops to the Middle East, alongside a guarantee that MPs will be given a vote before any decision is taken.”

The Cabinet Office was contacted for comment.
