Seven-mile trek plan prompts strikes

STUBBORN DWP bosses have sparked strike action over their bizarre decision to “save” money in Garston, Liverpool, by closing offices and ferrying people out to another site at a cost of £610,000.

Civil service union PCS raised the alarm yesterday on “eye-watering” sums involved in proposals to shunt workers seven miles away to Bootle.

The union says bosses intend to splash cash on travel while ignoring cheaper proposals to move to a new office nearby.

PCS national officer Steve Cawkwell said: “It is staggering that the DWP plans to press ahead with this eye-wateringly expensive plan to ferry staff across Liverpool.”

Strikes are planned for December 22 and January 2.
