Scots believe more SNP MPs would help Scotland

MOST Scots think a powerful SNP holding the deciding votes in a hung Parliament would deliver more for Scotland than a straight Labour majority, a poll found yesterday.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon claimed a larger team of SNP MPs would be used to “bring an end to austerity economics and make Scotland free of Trident nuclear weapons.”

The SNP Panelbase survey followed an ICM poll on Saturday which put the SNP at 43 per cent against Labour on 26 per cent and projected 45 SNP seats at Westminster at next year’s general election, with only 10 for Labour.

Polling expert John Curtice said even Labour’s safest seats could fall if the ICM poll was correct.

Scottish Labour frontbencher Jenny Marra hit back: “The choice facing Scots next May is clear — we can send SNP MPs to the House of Commons to protest against the Tories, or we can send Scottish Labour MPs to replace the Tories.”
