‘I just want her near me to protect her’

Father of Ched Evans rape victim hasn’t seen her for a year

The woman who was raped by the unrepentant Ched Evans has once again had her life ruined by being identified on Twitter, her father said yesterday.

It is the fifth time she has had to move due to her identity being revealed by malicious Evans supporters on social media.

Her father, who cannot be named for legal reasons, hasn’t seen his daughter in over a year. They were unable to spend the holidays together because of the risk to his daughter and the rest of the family.

He said: “It’s the fifth time she’s had to move in under three years, she is just living her life on the run.

“I couldn’t even see her over Christmas because it’s too risky for her to visit me. I don’t even know where she is living at the moment, so I haven’t been able to give her the Christmas presents I bought her.

“The last time I saw her was almost a year ago and it’s been hard not having her at home over Christmas. I just want her near me so I can protect her.”

Evans served half of a five-year sentence and has since been attempting to get back into football but has struggled with a number of clubs, including former team Sheffield United and bottom of League Two Hartlepool, turning down the opportunity to sign the striker.

The Welsh player has yet to apologise for his crime, instead pleading his innocence in a video statement days after his release from prison as well as via a website dedicated to discrediting the victim.

Her father is upset that the site has been allowed to stay up and feels that Evans has shown a complete lack of respect and remorse since coming out of prison.

He is also angry at the police for failing to “do their job.”

“Ched Evans is able to lead a normal life,” he said. “He has never apologised to my daughter.

“Instead, his website proclaims his innocence and draws attention to my daughter every day that it remains posted on the net. I think it should be taken down.

“I don’t think the police are doing their job if she’s having to move five times in under three years.

“She is on trial every day thanks to Evans’s website. It shows her entering the Premier Inn with the headline ‘Judge for yourself.’ Only her face is blurred and, in my view, she is easily recognisable. Neither the Crown Prosecution Service nor Premier Inn gave permission for the footage to be used.

“It can’t be right for a rape victim, after having endured the horrendous ordeal of a trial, to be subjected to ‘trial by website’.”
