Aslef train driver strikes continue with no signs of breakthrough in 20-month pay row

ASLEF train driver strikes continue tomorrow with no talks planned to end the bitter 20-month pay and conditions dispute.

Members at Chiltern, Great Western Railway and CrossCountry are to down tools as part of the union’s series of strikes, which started last week coupled with an overtime ban.

Chiltern and CrossCountry said they will not run any trains today while GWR said its services will be “extremely limited.”

GWR also warned of disruption to services today due to the overtime ban, which ends on Tuesday.

Aslef says it has not met with transport ministers for more than a year or employers since last April, when the union rejected a pay offer linked to changes in working practices. The unions highlighted that regular reballots on continuing with industrial action, as required under law, have returned huge votes in favour.

Train operators and the government insist the offer is “fair and reasonable” and has urged the union to ballot its members.
