Pardew to boost squad after victory over Spurs

Crystal Palace 2-1 Tottenham, by Tashan Deniran-Alleyne at Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew still plans to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window despite the 2-1 London derby win against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday night.

The Eagles have been linked with a host of new players already this month and while Pardew refused to reveal any names, he admitted a striker is top of the priority list, but has ruled out a move for Liverpool forward Rickie Lambert.

“We’re still in the market for two players, we hope to have some news this week which I think might help us,” he said.

“I did have a conversation with Brendan (Rodgers), but I don’t think Rickie is going anywhere.

“We are monitoring strikers, I don’t think my pool of strikers have any problem with that. They know competition is coming in, there will be hopefully a striker or two arriving.”

Pardew spoke after his Palace side came from behind to secure their first league win since November in his first home game in charge.

In-form Harry Kane broke the deadlock just after the break at Selhurst Park with his 18th goal of the season, but Dwight Gayle equalised with an expertly taken penalty in the 69th minute.

Jason Puncheon scored the winner inside the final 10 minutes as he drilled an effort into the bottom corner after Wilfried Zaha’s cross was deflected into his path.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was left frustrated with the result, as his side missed the chance to move level on points with third-placed Manchester United.

“We are not happy, we are disappointed with the result. I think that we lost a good opportunity to get three points and get into the top four,” the Argentinian said.
