A SUSPECTED US drone strike killed four militants near Pakistan’s north-western border with Afghanistan today.
Two missiles fired from the drone targeted a militant hideout in the Shawal area of Pakistan’s North Waziristan tribal region, officials said.
Their account could not be independently corroborated as journalists are not allowed to work in tribal areas.
US officials do not discuss the strikes, which provoke anger over civilian casualties and claims that they violate Pakistan’s territorial sovereignty.
Elsewhere lawyers have complained bitterly that jail authorities had carried out the execution of a prisoner despite a High Court stay of execution.
Lawyers for Khalid Mehmood, a former air force technician, confirmed he was hanged on January 9 in Adiala jail, Rawalpindi, in defiance of a Lahore court stay of execution.
The stay had been granted after the court called a government witness to respond to arguments raised in the case.
