RUSSIAN communists gathered in Moscow’s Red Square yesterday to mark the 91 years since Lenin’s death.
The revolutionary leader and groundbreaking Marxist thinker, who led the October revolution of 1917 and founded the world’s first socialist state, died in 1924.
Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov described Lenin as “one of the most brilliant statesmen in the history of the world.”
He had “created a party of working people which saw a half-dead country reborn” in 1917 and then “built the mighty Red Army from scratch.”
Mr Zyuganov called on Russia to reflect on Lenin’s achievements, reject capitalism and adopt “a new course, new policies and an honest assessment of our history.”
