Scabbing squaddies to fill 999 roles during strike

SOLDIERS are set to scab as amateur paramedics this week as tense negotiations between health workers and ministers resume today.

Ambulance workers in England and Northern Ireland represented by the GMB will walk out for 24 hours on Thursday, while other health workers will stage a 12-hour strike.

Conciliation talks failed to reach a conclusion last week.

The strikes are the latest in a series of actions after mean Tory Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt denied workers even the 1 per cent pay rise recommended by independent advisers.
