Boko Haram assault kills hundreds in Maiduguri

BOKO Haram militants launched a three-pronged attack on Maiduguri yesterday, sparking fierce battles with Nigerian government troops that left hundreds dead.

Soldiers blocked road access to the city preventing civilians from fleeing the area.

With around a million residents it is the largest in north-east Nigeria.

Amnesty International warned that hundreds of thousands of civilians were now at risk.

Simultaneous attacks 125 miles south in Adamawa state saw the terror group raze villages to the ground, slitting male residents’ throats and abducting women and children, according to refugees fleeing the violence.
