ICE HOCKEY: 41-year-old former Chelsea goalkeeper Peter Cech has joined the Belfast Giants on loan as an emergency cover goal-tender.
Both of Belfast’s regular back-up goalies Jackson Whittle and Andrew Jackson are currently injured and Cech will be in the Giants squad for their match at Elite League Leaders Sheffield on Saturday.
Cech currently plays for Oxford City in third tier National Ice Hockey League South.
MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Edinburgh will be looking to follow up last week’s 25-22 win over Connacht when they meet current United Rugby Championship top dogs the Pretoria-based Bulls tomorrow night.
Tomorrow evening’s other fixtures see Ulster up against Johannesburg’s Lions at their Ravenhill stadium and Cardiff in Parma to meet Zebre.
Benetton, the only unbeaten team left in the competition, travel to face the Glasgow Warriors tomorrow.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: Gabe Olaseni top-scored with 24 points as the London Lions held off a late Besitkas surge to win Wednesday night’s Group A match 83-80 in Istanbul.
London moved up to third place in the group, level with the Turks but two games back on Paris who won 101-94 at Badalona and retained the group’s only 100 per cent record.
Hamburg beat Olympic Ljubljana 86-83 in their bottom-of-the table clash.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: The Scottish Challenge Cup quarter finals kick off this evening with unbeaten Championship table-toppers Dundee United at League One leaders Falkirk, who are also yet to lose a game this season.
Elsewhere tomorrow night Cup holders Hamilton host Raith in a repeat of last year’s final before Cymru Premier champions the New Saints take on Arbroath and Greenock Morton face Airdrieonians on Saturday afternoon.
