SHEFFIELD Palestine solidarity campaigners mounted a protest in the city on Sunday night against a visit by film star Sylvester Stallone.
Stallone gave a talk about his life on Sunday night in Sheffield’s City Hall, with tickets costing up to £200 — and a charge of £500 to be snapped with the star of the Rocky and Rambo films.
The Hollywood muscleman helped raise $33 million (£22m) for the Friends of the Israeli Defence Force in the United States in November, three months after Israel’s attack on Gaza left thousands of Palestinians dead, including 490 children.
Other fundraisers included Arnold Schwarzenegger, Barbra Streisand and Pamela Anderson.
Members of Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign staged a candle-lit protest outside the hall.
Flis Callow of Sheffield PSC said: “About 150 attended.
“People held candles in memory of the 2,139 Palestinians killed by the IDF last August. Others gave out leaflets to the people going in explaining why we were there.
“There was a mixed response from the Stallone fans but the majority were friendly and took the leaflets and a few people who had intended to go in actually decided not to.”
