RMT overwhelmingly back renewing mandate for long-running Tube dispute

RMT members have voted overwhelmingly to continue their long running dispute over jobs, conditions and pensions with Transport for London (TfL).

The reballot by union members working on the London Underground renews their strike action mandate for a further six months.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: “I congratulate our members on delivering another impressive Yes vote in our campaign on pensions, jobs and working conditions on London Underground.

“Our union will now consider the results and the next steps in this campaign.”

A RMT spokesman said 95 per cent of members voted “yes” on a 54 per cent turnout and 52 per cent of all those who were balloted voted “yes.”

Strike action on the Tube was suspended in October after RMT secured concessions to save jobs from London Underground Limited, a subsidiary of TfL that operators the service.

A spokesman however warned disagreements remained over the wider dispute.

TfL has been contacted for comment.
