Everton manager Roberto Martinez is not expecting to add to his squad before the end of the transfer window today, but hinted he could be tempted should a quality player become available.
The Spaniard was speaking after The Toffees secured their first victory in 2015, with a 1-0 win away at in-form Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, thanks to Romelu Lukaku’s second minute goal.
With Samuel Eto’o departing Goodison Park, there had been speculation of Martinez making a move for Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato, but the former Wigan manager plans to stick with his current options.
“It was never the plan to rely on January to increase the numbers in the squad,” Martinez said. “I feel that the squad is strong enough to achieve what we want to achieve in the second half of the season.
“I don’t expect to be busy, though if something, cheap, good and beautiful becomes available, you never know.”
Martinez was also full of praise for Lukaku, his match winner on Saturday, and feels the best is yet to come from the young Belgian striker.
Meanwhile Palace manager Alan Pardew, who suffered his first defeat since taking over at Selhurst Park, remains adamant he will not alter the side’s style of play ahead of their trip to relegation rivals, and bottom placed, Leicester City this weekend.
“Same attitude, same application, hopefully defend the first two minutes better than we did today and we can get ourselves a great result,” he said.
